It’s no secret that here at Visual Impact Promotions, we love our inflatables!  They are a great way to get your message pumped up and airborne.

Well we aren’t the only ones that feel this way. A lot of people like visually stunning, airborne items. In fact, people like them so much that they sometime jump right in to be a part of it all. Don’t be surprised if sometime this summer you see some hot air balloons floating around.  While these balloons are now used mainly for entertainment purposes, they were originally created for travel.

Mental Floss’ article “10 Strange Facts About Hot Air Balloons” details obscure information about the history of hot air balloons (click here for the complete article).

    Here are some highlights:

    1. To test the safety of the first hot air balloon, a rooster, a duck, and a sheep were used as the passengers. The balloon flew for 2 miles at 1500 feet in the air. This experiment was used prior to sending the first human piloted hot air balloon over the French court in 1783.

    2. Abraham Lincoln created the Balloon Corps that was used to spy on the Confederates during the civil war. Although this allowed the Union to watch the Confederates up to fifteen miles away, they were only used for one year, as it soon became clear the balloons were easy-to-shoot targets.

    3. In 2010, Christian Brown created a glass-bottom hot air balloon. This was first released at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, which was held in England. The original passengers on this balloon thought it was terrifying and rides have yet to be open to the general public.

Whether you choose to fly above the ground in one of these balloons or are too afraid of heights to take the plunge, it is undeniable that hot air balloons are attention grabbing attractions. Wouldn’t it be great if you could take advantage of that same concept to promote your business? Well, we understand that hot air balloons are not readily available for everyone to own but if you would like to garner the same attention for your business, take a look at our inflatables – a fun and unique way to promote your brand.
