To test the safety of the first hot air balloon, a rooster, a duck, and a sheep were used as the passengers. The balloon flew for 2 miles at 1500 feet in the air. This experiment was used prior to sending the first human piloted hot air balloon over the French court in 1783.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Abraham Lincoln created the Balloon Corps that was used\nto spy on the Confederates during the civil war. Although this allowed the\nUnion to watch the Confederates up to fifteen miles away, they were only used\nfor one year, as it soon became clear the balloons were easy-to-shoot targets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. In 2010, Christian Brown created a glass-bottom hot air\nballoon. This was first released at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta,\nwhich was held in England.
